Unprecedented RF capability

Our founding technology platform uses the quantum properties of Rydberg atoms - an atom with a single quasi-free electron orbit around its nucleus – to receive electromagnetic signals over a frequency range from DC to THz with exquisite precision. Rydberg RF technology augments traditional RF performance and creates fundamentally new capabilities in RF sensing, measurement, and imaging that are inaccessible with traditional antenna and solid-state technologies alone.

Rydberg Atom Quantum Technologies

Rydberg atoms serve as building blocks to novel quantum and photonic technologies offering a rich platform for technological innovation and applications. As highly excited atoms they possess unique characteristics that make them ideal for applications in quantum sensing, measurement, imaging, communications, computing, and security.

Sensing. Rydberg atoms are ultra-sensitive detectors of electric fields with an unprecedented detection and measurement range spanning DC to THz, offering new solutions in areas including RF sensing. signal reception, metrology, antenna testing, design and engineering.

Measurement. Absolute (atomic) measurements of electric fields directly traceable to the SI with measurement precision at the 0.1% level, an improvement >10x over that of classical antenna standards, ushering in a new era in RF metrology, atomic standards, EM testing, safety, and compliance.

Imaging. Ultrawide frequency spans combined with small atomic sensing volumes provide ultrahigh spatial resolution far below the RF wavelength, enabling spatial RF detection and high-resolution imaging of RF from low-frequency to high-frequency millimeter-wave and THz sources.

Communications and Surveillance. Rydberg's  atomic receiver is a fundamentally new technology for RF reception based on direct collection and demodulation of radio waves with atoms and light.  Atomic radio promises new capabilities in communications and surveillance demanding elevated reliability, security, and range.

Quantum Computing. Exploiting their large electric dipole moments and strong long-range interactions, Rydberg atoms enable the creation of entangled states and facilitate long-distance entanglement essential for quantum information processing and quantum computing.

Quantum Networks. Strong light-matter interactions with Rydberg atoms afford efficient and precise control of light down to the single photon level enabling novel photonic devices such as deterministic single photon sources in photonic signal processors and quantum memories.
